It was really fun to get the opportunity to do some hand lettering for a project… these names accompanied my illustrations of the islands of the Bahamas for Delta Sky Magazine.

Don’t Toss That Stapler
This piece is in the current issue of the Utne Reader (Sept-Oct 2011). The idea/reason behind the article it illustrates is great – trashed staplers inspired an Indiana schoolteacher to start a volunteer-run store selling donated business supplies to teachers at low cost.
Build a Better Girl
This illustration is for a book review by Caroline Leavitt for The Boston Globe – for the book “Blueprints for Building Better Girls” by Elissa Schappell. I loved working on the piece and now really want to read the book, a collection of linked stories about “restless girls, troubled young wives, and discontented mothers”.

I’m really happy with how this piece turned out for the Utne Reader – it helps illustrate an article about teaching students environmental literacy. I was also honored that Stephanie Glaros included me, and the process of working on this piece, in her blog on working with illustrators: Utne Reader Illustrated.

As close as I’ll ever come to having my name in lights… I spotted my American Express decal for Denver on the door of the Esquire Theater! More sightings (hopefully) to come…
